Farm Update
We have some good news on the farm search. We’ve found a place 75 miles north of us that will work. Its not sealed in stone yet but pretty close. We found a 127 acre farm with real good soils and a nice 56 cow tie stall barn. The barn is in good shape and has 4 box stalls, calf pens and heifer stalls at the far end. The cow barn also has 2 big silos and a working barn cleaner. There is a small horse barn and a heifer shed with headlocks. The land is in one big chunk right behind the barn and all on the same side of the road. The land happens to all be on a southern slope which the locals say makes it a few weeks earlier for spring a few weeks later for the first frost of the fall. There are some woods for hunting trapping and syrup making as well. The farm can be certified without any trouble, except that the barns must have the haymows cleaned out before the cows can go in or any new hay can go in. The land has not had any fertilizers or herbicides in the last 6 years and grows a mighty good hay crop. The milk house needs to be painted and have a new coat of concrete on the floor and it needs a bulk tank(found one yesterday). I’ve got to find a vacuum pump and put a vacuum line in the barn as well. The barn has no milking equipment in it. I’ve not the money to put up any fancy pipeline system, so I’m going back to milking with delaval bucket milkers. Its not far from a decent sized town which opens the possibilities for selling produce, chicken and eggs. Thats always been a draw back to living in the wilderness, no market for anything but milk. It has a brand new doublewide house on it with a full basement. Looks like Leah and the kids and I will take up basement living for the time being. The out of state owner happened to be in town a few days ago and we found out that they want very much to have a working organic farm there and are willing to have a long term lease and really want us come! The window of opportunity was real small, they are moving out west and were about to split the farm up and rent out part of it and put other parts in a program of some kind. However, they very much wanted it to be a productive, organic farm and have scraped the other plans. I don’t want to get too excited, but this seems to be really falling together for us. Praise the Lord!

Matthew 6:31-33 “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” We must give our lives totally to God and seek His righteousness. Well done Scott and Leah! Your faith WILL see you through-
Blessings-

Very happy for the update. Lot’s of pondering came from that last post and it is good to see the Lord working so apparently. We will continue to pray for you all and do keep us updated. Our prayers for you are often, empathetic, and fervent. Your little blog has been a great fellowship to our whole family and we want you to know that we are thinking about you. The news that you were almost homeless was pretty devastating to us and we are much relieved to hear this good news. Like many others, I sat here in the dark for awhile last night just thinking about all the details that you were facing. It is a good reminder that what seems impossible in our minds is easily handled by our Father. God bless,
Bob

We are so glad to hear the good news! Hopefully you will have time to blog about how the move goes. And, you will be joining us in basement dwelling! Sure is a lot cooler in the summer.

Scott,
I just stopped by here to suggest that you contact NOFA New York to see if they know of any farms that would suit your needs. I’m glad to read that you have already located a place. 75 miles north of where you are now sounds like you’re going to be my neighbor. Drop me an e-mail and let me know where you’re moving to. hckimball@bci.net

Scott and family,
A frequent lurker here. I had stopped reading your blog so often as I assumed that you, like many of our other agrarian favorites were simply busy with spring farm chores. I had missed the sad post so was delighted to see the happy post. Prayers answered quickly, what a blessing.
And a blessing to me also. Summer is a bad time for us, husband a school teacher so cash is always short in summer and we don’t farm:-( This post is very encouraging to me. I think I will embrodier Amber’s mom’s saying from the last post and hang it on my wall.
We here will pray for you and also pray the you are able to harvest what you have planted this summer from the farm you now live on.

Matt said you may end up in Chittenengo. We become the closest from RCCI (Groton). Don’t yet know any PComm churches in Syracuse.
Num 13:18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; Num 13:19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds; Num 13:20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.
