Moving On
Well, today I’m writing a post I sure hadn’t planned on ever having to write. Our whole world changed a little over a week ago and I’ve not had the stomach to blog here. The farm we have rented for 11 years (with the intention of buying) has been sold to someone else and we have have to get out. I won’t get into the details of the sneaky rotten behavior of the professing christians involved right now, perhaps another time. I’m heartbroke and mad and don’t really feel much like starting all over. We are currently looking for another 50 cow farm to rent somewhere and so far aren’t making much progress. We have to find something that can be certified organic right away, which means that it can’t have had any chemicals on it for the last 3 years. This could not have happened at worse time, we are recovering from a lean winter and we should be putting up hay. The job of moving an entire dairy farm is no picnic, and it won’t be cheap. For whatever reason, God in His Providence, is moving us on again. I can only rest in the truth that He has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass and trust that He has some plan for us. Please keep us in your prayers, and if anyone in the NE knows of any farms available please send me an email.

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. I fear the same will happen to us one day as we are in the same situation. My prayers go out to you and your family. Don’t know of any farms available in the NE, but we have plenty here in the SE. You would always be welcome. May God be with you and may He bless your search. In His Service, Kat

Scott:
I am so sorry to hear of this tribulation. Having lived out intense trials over the last few years, I can relate to having life turned upside down. I failed miserably at times to remain faithful in embracing adversity. More often then not I complained and expressed bitterness at my fate. Still, God carried me through the adversity and when he took me in opposite directions of what seemed to be a biblical life, then he provided a better life, better than I could have ever asked for or imagined. My life is coming full circle now and my original goals have changed some. They have more depth to them. When God looked like he was taking away from me the opportunity to farm, he actually sent me into the land of those who knew how to farm it best. I have been so blessed to learn from successful farmers here. I feel more equipped to work the land now than I ever have. Had I not been pushed into a sabattical, I would have carried on farming methods that would have been less sustainable in this economic crisis. My hope is to complain less now and when things don’t look like they are going right to wait with joyful anticipation of what God will do.
I imagine he is moving your family for your protection and sustainability. He would not bless you with a covenant family only to leave you without bread and land.
We will be praying for you here. Contact me as I know of some people who want to have a reliable dairy farmer for their small business. It is not in the NE but it could be blessing to you and your family.
Blessings,
Christina

Scott,
I’m very sorry to hear of this new development. I wish I had a barn and a farm for you to move right into. You wouldn’t need to go far. God bless you through this difficult situation.
Your friend,

I am moved to respond to this as our family businesses (I work in three of them daily) have seen all sorts of trials in the last few years. One thing I have found is that God is faithful. He has promised many things to us. Such as our children not begging bread. I urge you to cry out to Him to deliver you from oppressors.
A thing that recently happened to our rock quarry business is that our most recent blasters were never paid by the company that crushes our rock. This resulted in a lien on our property. We were willing to bite the bullet and pay the lien price and even interest owed (it wasn’t our fault the blaster had to wait so long to get paid–we were notified almost four months after the fact), but the blaster was demanding $3,000 in attorney’s fees, too. After talking to the blaster’s attorney, I found that this firm is one of the highest paid and highest power in Portland. He threatened suit and that we would pay dearly if we didn’t pay.
At this point, my first response was anger and hatred, but afterwards, I realized my power was feeble and I needed a much higher power. I had read in Ex 22 where God promises to make the wife and children of the oppressor of the widow and fatherless widows and orphans. God promises He Himself will visit death upon those people. While I cannot say His promise would be so severe to me and mine who are not fatherless or widows, I can be assured He will step in in some form. And so I cried out to God to deliver us from these people who desire to break our business.
He did. Today I got word that they consider the lien satisfied based on the checks we had already sent. We didn’t need to pay the attorney’s fees.
This is not the first time things have been close for our business. God has been faithful each time. When we needed money for development and it seemed we should borrow money, He instead waited for us to reject getting a loan, then brought work our way that more than made up the difference.
It seems most people’s faith works in church, but not when their checkbook is involved. Work hard, be diligent, and have faith that God’s promises are true.

Wow. Kind-of creates a crazy situation for you huh? With all the maintenance work the added benefit of moving ALL of it.
Certainly don’t want to give you the pat “God has higher plans for you brother” speech, and “turn the other cheek” line. I am sure that you and your family are quite mad about it.
However, what I do know, from my own experience and reading the dealings of God with your family, is that ALWAYS in hindsight we are able to see His hand in all our troubles. When we look back, we can see how He has woven the situations in our lives to accomplish His will. he will do the same this time as well.
Meanwhile . . . Don’t let the venom of anger rule, trust in the One that you have always trusted in, recognize that in either good or bad your soul is stable in Christ, and you have family and friends who love you and are willing to help you.
Is there anything FOUTFOLK can do to help now?
