June 2, 2009

Its been raining for a few days. Fine with me because we have 98% of the garden in and it saves several hours of watering in the evenings. Trying to do a better job of keeping things hoed this year and so far I’ve been keeping up with it. Two nights ago we had a frost in the valleys but we covered everything up on the hill just to be safe. That was a job and a half and I hope that its the last frost scare for the season. The boys and their grandpa have made some little nesting cages out of old bread trays and have about 50 or so eggs under some broody hens. When they find a setting hen they grab her and stick her in a pen under a huge pile of eggs. We won’t be depending on mail order chicks this year! Its the cheapest non electric incubator I’ve seen. Grass is holding out pretty good and the cows are milking well. Hay looks to be on the lean side this year. It was so dry early on that its already starting to head out and needs to be harvested cause it ain’t going to grow any more than it has. I need to start thinking about finding some piglets pretty soon. They are harder to find this year, around here anyway.

  1. The Pilgrim Pundit Says:

The Calvinists in China was a great encouragement. My son was even imagining what the providences of God might look like in the furture world when, say China finally decides to come get some of the property it owns here. We were considering what it might be like to have the Chinese Army strolling across the land, and having a Presbyterian Chinese soldier helping us stay alive during the “siege”!
    Stranger things have happened.
