They Just Don’t Get It

The protestant Church really needs to rethink their ideas on the Middle Ages. This piece of rubbish comes out of a popular “christian” homeschool text book on world history….

The urban (city) culture had been replaced by the rural (country) culture of the Middle Ages…About 95% of the population of western Europe lived in the country. This population shift from the cities to the country combined with the general lack of trade resulted in a poor, backward society dependent on agriculture for survival.

I’m so glad we are doing a Charlotte Mason style education with our children and don’t have to rely on textbooks to teach our children. The more so called “christian homeschool textbooks” I’ve looked at the more I realize how far down the tubes our culture has gone. History is the worst, protestants in this country should just be ashamed of themselves for the crapy stuff that passes for history books. From what I’ve seen, we could all pull our kids out of state schools and still end up back where we started in couple of generations if we are not careful.

I completely understand. Many Christians think they can make something ‘just like the world’ slap an ichthus on it, and call it good. What is really at the heart of the matter is a Christian soaked version of syncretism.

  2. Jeffrey Klute Says:

“Man despite his artistic pretensions, his sophistication, and his many accomplishments owes his existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.” - Unknown

The textbook propogates today’s typical delusions. Historically, I wonder who will be the wiser, us, or the “peasants” of such a backward time? Truly, we live now, as well as in the Middle Ages, “in a poor, backward society dependent on agriculture for survival.”

The folks of the “dark ages” had it good, however. The situation today is much worse. We have a general lack of trade except in debt and cheap goods. Most of us are in the city or dependent on it for a living (95%?). Agriculture is under the control of corporations that are morally bankrupt (would God call this poor?). They (we?) use backward methods to produce food that is hardly worth eating (there is much waste and destruction of the soil).

And so we’re barely surviving. Nothing’s changed, just the landlords.

“Nothing’s changed, just the landlords.” - Hey Jeff, that’s pretty good… and so true.

    Scott,

Stacy and I use Charlotte Mason as a guide for our children’s reading also. I’ve been doing a little thinking…. Since the Reformation, there has been an increasing number of denominations. However, other than certain issues in core doctrine, how were worship services different BEFORE the industrial revolution gripped our nation just before and during Lincoln’s War? From what I can find, there was not a drastic difference.

My wife’s grandmother, who is 86, has been SBC all her life. She can remember responsive readings, declarations of faith, Psalms being sung, etc. etc. The reason I say this is becasue it seems as though protestant church’s are more interested in modern emotionalism (self worship) than true sound biblical worship. Is this, too, the result of our modernist system. Look how “progressive” our modern churches are. We no longer need things like public confessions of sin, or for that matter, the Lord’s Table for our nourishment.

Hope all is well on the Hill. Keep everyone up to date on how Leah’s pregnancy is going. Stacy is due any day now. Keep us in your prayers. I’ll let you know how everything goes.

    In Christ,

    Matt Davis
