Worth Reading and Sharing

Allen Shropshire has started a weblog called Promised Land, which I am enjoying very much. His Latest Post is very well done and should be read by all who wonder why their hometown churches are passing away. In a sence, we agrarians are doing things the way we are becouse we already know what Allen has written is true. It might be something that you could pass along to folks who need to hear it, becouse it is well written and just might open the eyes of folks who are blind to to what has happened to our people. Thanks Allen, for joining the world of Christian agrarian bloggers. I can tell that you will be an asset to our cause.

Scott, you beat me to the draw in announcing the new agrarian blog the Promised Land. Allen’s latest posting on the death of churches is enlightening. We have the same problem here with many old churches shrinking with very aged congregations. There are three active churches in Rayville, but I am the only pastor that lives in town. The biggest church draws in several hundred from many miles around, but I can’t help wonder what is going to happen when the dollar fully tanks and travel becomes too costly. There is one family near Rayville that is trying to sell their home to move closer to Kansas City because the commute to work is costing them $400 a month in gas alone.

Scott, This introduction to Promised Land is very much appreciated! I suppose that everyone who begins a blog wonders if anyone would ever read anything they had to say. I certainly did. I also wondered if what I had to say would be pertinent or interesting to anyone. Your post answered those questions, eased my fears and have encouraged me greatly. The reception I have recieved as a result of your post has been very warm and surprising. It is comforting to finally be a part of this Christian Agrarian blogging community and know we will be accepted. Thank you also for all you have shared in the last few years. I pray Christ would be through us all.
