Happy Thanksgiving

Well, tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day, so today we did what every redblooded Christian agrarian dose the day before Thanksgiving. We killed a turkey, this year a Royal Palm. Now some of you might remember that last year we got a pair Black Spanish turkeys that I hoped we would build a little turkey producing flock out of. It seems the Lord had other plans becouse the old tom died during the winter, he wasn’t a very hardy soul. The hen sat on a bunch of chicken eggs and hatched out a clutch of babes, which is kind of neat, but it doesn’t put a turkey on the table. The Black Spanish are kind of a lean looking bird, that hen would have to be 10 years old before she could feed us at supper. So she continues to peck around the farm and most likely always will. We have an over aboundance of roosters, so we traded some to our neighbor on the other hill for a turkey. He sells fowl to ethnic groups that like old roosters so we both made out on the deal. A good old country transaction, no cash trading hands, just critters. Johnny told me first thing this morning, “Dad….I want to kill the turkey this year.” John is the 5 year old and he was finally ready to do his first butchering job. Noah has butchered chickens before and John had never asked to it and I have never pushed it. When your ready, your ready. So today was Johns big day, his first kill. He did a fine job and him and Noah, and me and grandpa did the plucking. Three generations working on Thanksgiving dinner, pretty cool. Today the boys and I did a little deer hunting. It was warm today and the deer were not moving at all. I’ll most likely go out in the morning again and see if I can’t get a shot at a doe or two, Lord willing.

May the Lord bless you all as you prepare for a day of prayer and thanksgiving to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Lets remember to be thankfull for all that the Lord has done for us, both big and small. Let us be thankfull that he has called us to be His covenant people and cleansed us with the Blood of Jesus Christ. May He give us the strength and faith to confront the wickedness of our day and advance His gospel.

May you and your family have a very blessed day of giving thanks to the Lord. It is by and far my most favorite Christian day of celebration. Even so, we ought to hold frequent love feasts where we give open and hearty thanks to the Lord for everything He so generously provides, including the humbling chastisements and various trials He sends to work in us His perfect will. I suspect the way things are rapidly spiraling into great economic difficulty that we will come out the other side having a far greater appreciation for giving thanks together as followers of Christ the King.
