Praise the Lord!

Finished up the morning milking, spent 15 minutes in the woods, and harvested this nice 8 point! It don’t get much better than that. Now to go fill them 2 doe tags I’ve got.

Congratulations, honey! We’re all so proud of you! Praise the Lord!

Congrats!! It looks a little chilly there; it must have been great weather for hunting. I was finally able to bag a deer yesterday, an 8 point buck also, the first one in 3 years of determined hunting, which is not to reflect upon the hunting here, as it is quite good, but rather my limited hunting know how. Now to fill as many doe tags as we can, Lord willing.

Yes, it was a little chilly. 28 when I left for the woods with a coating of snow. Didn’t need the snow for tracking though, the bugger dropped right where I shot him. I saw your buck’s picture over your blog, very nice! It looks like the Lord is blessing all of us in the agrarian blog world with 8 point bucks, I see the oldest of the Bartlett boys shot one too. http://jonathanjbartlett.blogspot.com/2007/11/pictures-speak-louder-than-words.html

Congratulations on your buck, Scott! We were very proud of our son Jonathan’s 2 deer, and very thankful for the venison. Our kitchen table was a processing plant for the last couple of days! I’m amazed at what we’ve learned to do since moving up here.

Congrats, Scott. It is a good thing to have the Father provide for our needs. It is especially good when we have an affinity for, and an appreciation of, the means of harvesting.

I harvested somewhere in the neighborhood of 750 pounds (after processing) this deer season. HOWEVER, my harvesting was of chickens, rather than deer. We spent the two Saturdays of deer season processing. Nevertheless, we are not without venison. My brother (who, like my dad, is a prolific hunter) gifted us with a small deer (little larger than our chocolate lab dog, as he described it) which was one of several he took this season. Part of it became chili, which we consumed on the second Saturday of chicken processing.

May the Father continue to bless you through the coming winter season with the joy and gladness that comes with being prepared through his gracious provision.

BTW … another thought. I was very happy to see the link from Christianity Today to your blog in their online article about Christian agrarianism. Though it is hard for an outside news source to really get it right, I though the article had a lot of positive points to it. And to link to you (and Herrick, among others) was a GREAT thing.

    Hi Jon

Congrats on the chicken harvest! 750 pounds, thats a good mess of chicken. The first deer I ever shot was about chocolate lab size :) I think it weighed about 65 pounds, kind of like deer veal, very tasty and tender.

It was kind of neat to get a plug in the Christianity Today article. I agree with you, even if they don’t “really get it”, at least it was a positive article. We don’t always get a fair shake in that regard. When I first saw the referrals on the ole sitemeter, I have to admit I was a little scared to click my way over to see what on earth they were linking to me for. I thought “well, this could be a good thing or a really bad thing.” It seems alot of folks that clicked over here were pretty interested, lots a page veiws.
