Wilder Homestead

As most of you know, the boys have had me read Farmer Boy again. They loved it the second time more than the first. I have a feeling we will be reading it again. The Wilder Homestead was in Upstate NY. Now what I didn’t know was that it had been restored and is open to the public( check out the link above). Well, you should have seen the boy’s faces when I asked them if they wanted to go see Almanzo’s farm. They hang on every detail of that story. I bet they could give the tour guide a tour :) I’m pretty exited myself, its a trip we can make in a day, kind of important when you have a barn full of cows to milk. Some day this summer we will get up early and get chores done and make the trip. We’ll be sure to take some pictures for you all.

    Hi, Scott,

Our kids loved those books so much that we read the whole set aloud three times. We also got to visit four Laura sites in the midwest and it made the books come alive even more. I predict that your boys will LOVE going to Almanzo’s boyhood home. Enjoy!!

By the way, we have a tape of Laura talking, and she pronounces his name al-MAN-zo, with a short “a” in man; not al-MAHN-zo like they say on the old TV show.

    Always love reading your blog.

Our best to your family and your HIGH church! :)

    Deb
