Total Economy

Wendell Berry uses the term Total Economy to discribe our nations current worldveiw, and I agree with him. The “economy”, “freemarket” or “global freemarket” are the gods of this culture. Everything we do or don’t do as a nation is done with regards to how it will effect the economy. This religon has its own moral code, its own set of laws. The law of competition and the law of supply and demand are the standard. The assumption that things are to be made wherever it is cheapest to do so and sold where they will bring the most money is an undenialable truth that can not be challenaged. People are are simply consumers or producers, winners or losers not human beings made in the image of God. Nevermind that to live in a ruthless state of total economy, where to love ones neighbor is silly and conterproductive, causes us sin against the living God. America has no use for the true High Priest, Christ. She has replaced Him with a new preisthood, the economists, who are quoted by our masters in the press as having the final word on any subject under the sun. The new high priest is the Fed Chairman, who is closely listened to and his words are heeded by all. Right or wrong no longer matter, only profit or loss. The only sin in the Total Economy is to hinder greed and corruption.

Hey just got internet working again, wanted to let you know i am still alive. Been busy trying to farm. Worked hard all winter to get equiptment ready for spring, making several trips to the parents homestead to retrieve scrap iron i lovingly refer to as farm equiptment. the farmall450, sat at home for 10 years, but a new battery and fresh gas brought that 50$ tractor to life. the farmall h didnt do so well, she was inside the shed, but still managed to fill her cylinders with water somehow. I completely rebuilt the motor, and got new tires and rims for the rear, It helps to work at the garage in town, the boss let me push the tractor in at night to work on in the comfort of a heated area. The john deere, it sits mostly in boxes , cleaned and painted waiting for someone to find the time to reassemble.

Great to hear from you! I take it your back in Ripley now? Its good to hear you got the tractors hauled home. I had the H out to the sugar shack when we still lived in WNY, your brother brought it out and we used it on the sap wagon. I’m glad you got her running again. I’ll be sending you an email soon, lets do a better job keeping in touch!
