Animals and Relationships
I have been thinking about this post by Kelly over at Post Tenebras Lux for a while. I have been wanting to write about our relationships with animals and God’s relationships with them. I still don’t have anything that I feel comfortable with yet, so you’ll have to wait a little longer. Kelly has captured the essence of my feelings regarding mans relationship with his beasts in this quote….
When you’re raising and nurturing an animal, and receiving nurture from it in turn, that animal really becomes a part of you in a way it’s not possible for other beloved animals. It’s almost like being family - maybe it is being family, but it certainly is a real physical communion
Words like those will scare the socks off of most “conservative christians”. Our whole “theolgy of animals” is nothing more than a reactionary responce to darwinists who think that people are the offspring of monkeys. Lets not let the pagans set the perimeters of our thinking. What dose the bible say about animals? What dose God command us regarding creation? If the answers sound “to far left” then perhaps we high and mighty “conservatives” have strayed to far from God’s standards ourselves. What Kelly has said is exactly how I feel about the animals that I husband. It is impossible for anyone that has not practiced animal husbandry to understand it.
