Hi folks!

There have been some big additions and changes to the prize package. As soon as everything is confirmed and finalized, I will be making an announcement.

Scott, as you would probably guess I am partial to the essay written by that young lady, Karisa. But the other two were absolutely remarkable too. . I sure don't envy you for putting yourself in the position to have to make these tough decisions. Rest assured that whoever gets left out already has a great reward in God's graces of ability, family, hope and sense of community.

Whatever decision you make in handing out the awards will be a good one.

Praise God! There is hope for the future of our nation! Scott, it is all to difficult to judge these three. I cannot imagine all of the others.

As for the writters of these, well said, and bravo! You are truly bright and shinning stars. Thank the Lord for blessing us with you.

I don't know about the rest of the readers, but I would like to see young agrarians like these enter this agrarian blogging community. It would be an encouragement to aspiring agrarians like me and my children.

Thank You

Well... I'm impressed! Clearly, all three essays and the people who write them are winners.

More thoughts...

These are all so good. I'm very glad I don't have to decide!
To help you judge how they specifically fulfilled your original task, assign a value for each part of the essay based upon your criteria. For example:
30% Why restoring the home economy is important
30% What their family is doing to restore it
30% What the student plans to do to continue it
10% other

I know that when I read them, I am too emotional about their wonderful stories, and I have a hard time being objective. You hate to boil it down to numbers, but maybe that would help you to choose.

But then, I think back to my earlier comment--make multiple winners. What's your goal? To encourage and reward junior agrarians? Or to pick a "winner?" I suspect you'd say the former.

I'll be praying for wisdom for you.

Scott,

I'm so pleased that you received such thoughtful essays! It gives me hope for the future of this nation.

Would you be open to splitting the first place prize package between the top two essays? Or, if you can't decide between the top three, could you pool all the prizes and split them three ways? Judging by their essays, I don't think these kids would feel slighted in the least.

Blessings to you and your family,
Deb
