First Chicks of the Year

Some crazy little hen hatched out 5 little ones on monday. She hatched them outside along the barn window in bellow zero weather. We didn’t even know that she was out there. Dad heard the peeping outside the barn window, so we went out and snatched them and the momma up and put em in the barn where its warmer. Seems a tad bit early to setting on eggs outdoors. Thats one tough hen!

It’s been a crazy year. We’ve had more snow and ice than we’ve had in several years, yet the geese are laying and I, too, have a broody hen. Plus, my husband saw robins today, a sure sign of spring in Oklahoma.

    Hi Judy

In mid Jan we had to break up the nest of our black spanish turkey. She was setting outside by the barn bridge. Strange year indeed!
