Love One Another
My wife grew up in a baptist church. Several years ago we received word that an old childhood friend and her husband would be in town. They were involved in missions over seas, and were coming back to the states for a few weeks. We had them over for dinner one evening. Just before supper I thought I would ask a few questions about their work in Korea. I asked what the largest competing religon to Christianity was. The answer…. “Presbyterians”. I later informed them that we were members of a Reformed Presbyterian church and they seemed a little uncomfortable. Of course reformed folks have their own problems. Even if we changed “love thy neighbor” to “love your fellow presbyterian”, most in reformedville would be judged as failures. At least fundamentalists love each other. One thing Jesus told us in plain, simple to understand language was to Love our neighbor. Instead, we have spent 2000 years fighting over everything you think of. Doctrine is important, but not at the expence of loving your brother or sister.

When I informed my family that we had become “Presbyterian”, they were all shocked. Everyone pretty much considers us “fundamentalists” and the biggest reply was “but doesn’t Prebyterian churches ordain women and homosexuals?” My sister in law goes to one like this. In reading this, I was just wondering if this may not be the type of church your friend was referring to. I know that PCUSA and EPC do a lot with oversees missions.
Hope I’m not stepping on toes by mentioning denominations, but it wouldn’t be the first time… :o)

Hi Matt
From what I hear, the ones in Korea are pretty conservative as a whole. The rest of the answer they gave was “becouse they baptise babies”.

We just watched a video today by a Pastor John Morgan. It was all about love. How when we figure out how to love one another as Christians (even across denominational lines… gasp!!) then the world will want what we have. I can’t think of the title right off, but it was really good.

Think about how bad it is for us poor “reformed Baptists”
Not a friend in the world. (just kidding, of course)
I completely agree with what you are saying. There is a lot of small-mindedness in all parts of Christianity. Sometimes it seems like the blogworld is knocking down some of those barriers and sometimes it seems like it is building them up even stronger….
