I used to do a lot of trapping, muskrat, mink, raccoon and beaver. Muskrats and beaver are excellent to eat. They are both dark meat sort of like beef. The beaver however has a lot of connecting tissue between the muscles which must be cut out.

Scott,

Impressive, very impressive. I'm just starting to get back into trapping, something I used to do as a teen and enjoyed very much. Thanks for posting this.

I emailed you at the address given on this site. Did you get it?

WOW!!! That is a HUGE beaver. I am sure that pelt will bring a nice price or make something really neat there on your homestead!!!

Nice. Very Nice. My kids and I are in awe of your trapping ability! Our trapping exploits this year were pretty much a failure. Wish we lived a little closer so you could teach us a thing or two.

Scott,

You do realize that Pamela Anderson and the animal rights wackos are gonna be pretty ticked off about this if she sees it? :o) Congrats! That is pretty cool. Down here, there is almost nowhere left to trap or hunt and even fishing is becoming just a sport of the modernized middle class yuppies who can afford the clubs and launch fees. You now have to buy a license to fish with a cane pole in your own pond!

Good job Scott! I never got on that big, but then again I didn't use the 330's either, just legholds. Them conibears are a bit tricky for me :) And if the leghold set wasn't perfect for drowning them, well, a big one would get away!

Hi Emily

Yes, we sell the pelts. As far as eating them, they say the tail is very good. I've got a few in the freezer and might give it a try. I found a recipe for pickled beaver tail in an old cookbook the other day. I'll let you know how it tastes, ifin' I get around to making it.
