Agrarian Pride

The other day I had to tell John and Noah that they couldn’t go to the barn with me for afternoon milking. I was in a hurry and it just wouldn’t work out well. They were crushed. John looked up at me with his sad eyes and said, “But Dad, when I go to the barn I’m a REAL Farmer Man. If I stay to the house, I ain’t nothin’ but a regular person.”

Wow! That is enough to make me sing the Gloria Patri. They have a clear vision of the glory of faithful stewardship of the land.

Now the only danger they will face would be an understandable lack of humility. :)

Yes, I was thinking about that when I was typing it up. I should temper there “Agrarian Pride” with a little humility. Its hard to strike the ballance sometimes, when the world says “Your JUST a farmer?, thats what you do?, why not get a real job and support your family?” its fun to see kids that haven’t been “exposed” to much of “the normal culture” being thrilled with their nobal calling.

Hi Scott! Sounds like your boy has a purpose in life. :) What a grand thing to have that much awareness at such a young age. P.S. How are Leah and baby doing?

    Hi Emily

Leah and and the baby are doing well. I felt the little booger kick a week or so ago and thats always fun. Little John says its going to be girl and Noah says it isn’t a boy or a girl…..its just a baby. Leah has been feeling pretty good and is getting larger……hmmm…. I’m I allowed to say that.

Praise the Lord that you have been able to instill such an awareness of calling in your son. That is a rare thing these days. Nurture and develop it, brother. The humility will come.

    Scott,

I think your son may have inadvertantly stumbled on the source of my discontent. I’m just a regular person. Wow, out of the mouth of babes…

I agree with the good reverend, nurture that awareness!
