Homesteader Life Finds a New Home

Welcome to the “new and improved” Homesteader Life. I’m proud to announce that we will now be hosted at and sponsored by christianagrarian.com. Mark and Gwen are top notch folks. Be sure to take a look at what they have to offer. Over the last few months things have been kind of dead around here, the new blog will give me a an excuse to start posting on a more regular basis. Things are still pretty dry around here, the cows are having to cover a lot of acres to get enough grass. Please pray for rain. The peas and spinich are doing well and we are making some head way on the last of the tilling work for the later stuff. Pear and cherry trees are in full bloom and the old toms are gobbling alot. Every morning when I’m calling the last of the lazy cows back down for milking I get one or two toms to answer me. Haven’t had time to tote the shotgun out and harvest one yet. Speaking of turkeys, I’m thinking about raising some to sell fresh at Thanksgiving time this year. Quite a few chicken costomers have showed intrest in a fresh pastured turkey. I might raise a batch and see how it goes. Well, I just stopped in for some breakfast, and now I need to go hunt up a fresh cow that has hidden her baby in the woods. Then we need to fix a little more fence and get the other chores caught up. I love fixing fence this time of year. The feilds and woods are alive with God’s creatures and it gives you time to reflect the One who made them. How a man can roam this vast creation, watching and and observing the Lord’s handywork, and not see His his mighty presence seems strange to me. They have eyes, but can not see. Yes, the bible tells us that the wise are made foolish and the foolish are made wise. God alone can open ones eyes, and I thankfull that he opened mine. It was not that many years ago that I would have walked these feilds and not seen God but only trees and birds and grass. The cross is foolishness to the unbeilever and by His grace I am a fool for Christ.

    Hi, Scott,

Glad you’re back. New blog looks great!

I’ve probably missed some info, but I did see your brother mentioned in a post (don’t know if it was your blog or your wife’s), so I’m thinking and hoping he came out of his illness a few months ago just fine.

Also am thinking and hoping Noah’s fine and is cleared of his health issue of a couple of weeks ago.

Amen, Scott, to working outside in the beauty of God’s creation! Your thoughts made me think of Romans 1:20. I love this time of year. We’ve had a small herd of turkeys in the area….might be a chance yet to try out the new Remington we just bought. I say go for raising some if there is a market for them. You can always eat the leftovers! :) We’re getting our first ever chicks in a couple of weeks and, as you can imagine, excitement around here is at a fever pitch! Hope you get some rain soon……praying for you here in NH!

    Hey Scott,

I like your new place here. I do, however, miss the “buck skinnin’, chicken pluckin’ etc. heading that was at your old place.

    Best wishes,

    Herrick

Nice blog. I am having to change my book marks and feeds now. Uggh. But I am hoping this new spot will inspire you once again. Any news on the pregnancy? Is it one? I haven’t been able to check in on the CMOMB at all. It is too busy here.

My brother had a bad infection in his hand, it almost killed him, but he’s better now. Noah is back to being Noah, praise the Lord! He goes to the barn every day and never misses a chance to ride a track-a-door or a stid-steer.

Glad to hear your getting chicks! I have a batch of broilers coming on the 10th….or the 15th…I better check:) That remington would make a fine turkey gun. Get some copper plated #5’s.

It wouldn’t all fit. Check the “about” page…..its still there.

We won’t know anything more on the “is it one” question for a while. Leah sees the midwife next week. I’ll keep you posted. She is a trooper, had her out sleeping on the ground the other night:) The kids wanted to go camping so I drug the whole clan across two pastures and down into a little hollow for a camping trip. John now wants to live in the woods…a chip off the ole block.

  6. Tom Says:

    Hey Scott,
Lookin good! Gwen and Mark sure are good to work with! Dittos on the Lord opening our families eyes. In fact, thank God!

  7. Kelly Says:

Turkeys! Mike knows a couple of people at work who would love to buy turkeys from us if we decide to raise some for Thanksgiving, so we’re thinking about it. The source he found for them was charging something like $8 per chick, with a minimum order of 12 chicks. Does that sound like a fair price to you? Do you mailorder your chicks?

  8. reformed farmer Says:

    Kelly,

For cheaper turkeys check out Meyer Hatchery. It’s in my sidebar under chickens. This is my first year ordering from them. We got our broilers for 89 cents apiece. I think the turkeys are just under $3.
