Name a Calf, Win some Homemade Soap

I almost forgot about promising a “name that calf” contest until I saw it was mentioned on David Black Online. So here we go, I have a calf sired by “Forever” out of my pride and joy, Ahren Lea Imperial Elsie. All calves in the Elsie family have names that start with “E”. The Prize….. whoever comes up with the best name will get some of our Hertitage Hill Handmade Soaps. They are made right here on top of MT Hunger by my wife Leah. If you win, just give my your address, and I’ll mail them out to you at no cost! For the men folk who are wondering what in the world they would do with such a thing……….stick ‘em in the closet and you have a gift handy for the next “special day” you forget! Remember the name needs to start with the letter “E” and I have already used Elly Mae, Emmy Lou, Ellen, Eden, Ena, Elaine in the last couple of years, so they don’t count. You can leave names until June 18th and we will pick a winner on the 20th.

Ah, the hot summer months when a girl takes twice as many showers and goes through soap like it was water.

Here are my offerings thus far:

    Eleanor
    Eliza (or Eliza Jo)
    Evie (Or Evie Lyn)
    Evelyn
    Eve
    Edna (or Edna June)
    Ethel (or Ethel Ann)
    Esther
    Etta (or Etta Rose)
Evangeline (or Evangeline the Amazing Gospel Cow) ;-)
Or does it have to have all those words in front of it like “Ahren Lea Imperial Elsie”? And if so, what are the rules for that?

Just be sure you have a separate and sacrosanct list of girls’ names for John and Noah’s sisters that can’t be used on cows, too. (That’s why I didn’t list Elizabeth, because it’s my favorite girl’s name!)

  2. Leah Says:

    Valerie.

Esther is out! Our first daughter’s name will be Esther Margaret. I like all the others for a cow, though. ;)

  3. Scott Says:

    Valerie

Her name will be Ter-View Forever… or Ter-view….. which ever sounds better.

Women!?!?!? Why can’t a cow and a daughter share a name? I have always hoped my first daughter would be named after Elsie the cow. Leah said NO. I’m still holding out hope that someday one of my little girls will share the name of the best little jersey I ever milked.

  4. The BadgerMum Says:

    Eliza Jane.

  5. Anonymous Says:

    How about

Eliana (the Lord has provided) or
    Eternal (goes with Forever nicely)

    Stephanie Seabrook

  6. Jon Caudle Says:

I thought, like Stephanie, that Eternal (like Forever) would be a good basis for the name … however, slightly modified:

    Eterna

    JFC

  7. evermoor Says:

    A few:

    Ter-view Ella My Belle

    Ter-view Forever dEja Vu

    Ter-view Forever Elsie Two

Ter-view Edelweiss + Black to Boot
    (Edelweiss means “Noble White”)

    Ter-View Forever Effie Moo

Or Ter-View Effie Wet with Dew
….or Effie Dipped in Dew, although “dipping” has different connotations for farmers.

    Ter-view Edith Sue
    (Or Ter-view Forever Edie)

    Ter-view Edwina….. Edwina. Hmmm.

  10. Puritan Mama Says:

    Leah,
Our baby girl’s name is Hadassah Margaret! (Hadassah being Esther’s name before she was taken to the King…) Just thought that was neat. Still trying to come up with new cow names, though. Gonna have to go grab the baby name book :)

  11. Puritan Mama Says:

Okay, here are my choices. First names only, I don’t understand the heritage of cows in their names:

    Easter
    Elia (Female form of Elijah)
Elisa (Hebrew : Consecrated to God)
    Elpida (Greek for “hope”)
Emsley (Old English for “gift from above”)
    And here’s my favorite:
Ellema - African for “milking a cow” - the only question is, since I got this from a baby names book, who on earth would name their HUMAN daughter “milking a cow???”

  12. farmer buie Says:

    Hows about Emma Rae?

  13. abigail Says:

Oh! Oh! Oh! I just thought of another while doing dishes, waving my hands overhead in sudsy excitement!

    Ready? dum, dum, dum….

Ter-view Forever Everflowin’ Fountain (of Milk)

Are you weary of silliness yet? I’ll try to post a few proper names before the 20th. My skin is dark with dirt, and that’s saying something when you know how pale I usually am. (Oh, glorious soap…)
